Heritage Weekend 2023

This year’s theme is Creativity Unwrapped, and what better way to get creative than through music and art!

Join Calderdale Music and Halifax Art Society for free activities at The Old Courthouse.

Have A Play Day 10:30am – 11:30am

Have a go at playing a piano, trumpet, trombone, flute, french horn, ukulele and recorder!

Suitable for all ages, though woodwind and brass is best for ages 8 and up.

Mini Musicians Class, for ages 4 – 7 years   11:30am – 12:00pm 

Learn musical skills through play! Join us for a free Mini Musicians session, perfect for young children interested in music and who may want to learn an instrument one day.

Parents, please stay to supervise your children – you can take part too!

30 Minute Piano Taster Session – For Adults.

11:30am – 12:00pm & 12:00pm – 12:30pm

These 30 minute group sessions will introduce you to piano basics. Perfect for adults who have been considering taking lessons or anyone who would like to try something new! No previous experience required!

Electric keyboards will be used in the session.

There is one session taking place at 11:30am and a second session at 12:00pm, the sessions are exactly the same.

Art Workshop 1pm – 3pm

Halifax Art Society will lead a family friendly workshop, sketching some musical instruments that you might not have seen before!

Drop in any time between 1pm and 3pm. Colouring sheets and pencils will be provided for children

Fancy Dress and Photos

Have your photo taken in the courtrooms with some fancy dress! See how people were dressed on the day the building’s cornerstone was laid, will you go dapper with a top hat and waistcoat, or maybe a bonnet and a shawl?

Open Building

The Old Courthouse will be open to members of the public who’d like to come and see how the building is being used now. 10:30am – 2pm. Guide booklets will be provided – please return these to Reception after your visit.

Rhythm & Brews Café

The cafe will be open serving hot drinks and cakes and hosting a range of activities. See if you can win a free music lesson!
