William Scattergood

William has recently finished his Masters degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. Under the tutelage of Craig Ogden, he successfully graduated with distinction. During his time at the RNCM, William was involved in a variety of solo performances and ensemble events. This has included performing as a soloist for the Guitar departments performance of College’s String festival. As a soloist as part of the RNCM’s Classical guitar department, he performed Gerald Garcia’s Lorca Concerto for Two Guitars and Guitar Orchestra. He has given public recitals in various venues in and around the North East and North West.

During his time as an undergraduate at Newcastle University, William was involved in a wide range of performance projects. This included a production of Handel’s opera Asis and Galatea at the Newcastle Opera House. Within the opera he arranged an aria for soprano and solo guitar as well as playing a variety of instrumental roles the continuo section including the theorbo.

In addition to his classical guitar playing, William is an accomplished performer in different styles of music including jazz, rock and pop on the electric guitar. He has performed as part of Salsa Ensembles, a wide range of theatrical productions including West Side Story, Opera and function bands. William spent his third year attending the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Castilla y Leon, Salamanca, Spain, as part of the Erasmus year abroad program. Here he focused his efforts on honing his skills as a guitarist while absorbing a rich cultural experience with diverse performance opportunities, both as a solo performer and as part of a guitar quartet.

Away from music, William spent much of his teens playing rugby league as a scholarship holder with the Sheffield Eagles reaching numerous finals at the highest level of the under-17’s game in Britain. Although he was offered an under-19’s academy scholarship, William decided on further pursuing musical studies.

William has participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned performers including Zoran Dukic, Sean Shibe and Guilio Tampolini.
