Verity grew up in Bournemouth, where she benefitted hugely from lessons from Dorset Music Service. She discovered the recorder at primary school, moving on to the oboe, flute and saxophone at secondary school, before moving to Huddersfield to study for her BMus(hons) degree. After that, she completed a PGCE (with qualified teacher status) in music at Oxford Brookes University, before returning to Huddersfield to begin her teaching career and later gain an MMus degree in performance studies from Huddersfield University.
Verity holds grade 8s in oboe and singing and has played and sung in some of the most prestigious performance venues in the UK, including the Royal Albert Hall (in the BBC Proms), the Bridgewater Hall and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Verity is now currently a chorister at Huddersfield Parish Church, and tries to keep up with lessons with her own singing teacher so that she always remembers what it’s like to be a student! She has previously been part of the Huddersfield Choral Society and was a choral scholar at Leeds Cathedral. She has sung the solo roles in performances of Elijah, Messiah and Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and has sung solos with brass bands and orchestras.
Verity taught in a wide range of educational settings across West Yorkshire before coming to work with Calderdale Music Trust in 2015. She teaches singing and woodwind, but her real passion is for the recorder and singing, and whole class music making. Verity is our education rep for the Musician’s Union.
